Costa Rica is known for its wildlife. The last time we were here in 2004 we saw monkeys, lizards, crocodiles, other mammals, and hundreds of birds. Most of the time the sightings were from far away and needed a high powered zoom lens to get a good shot. Not so this time in the country,
We arrived in Manzanillo on the Caribbean on our second day in the country. We rented a really nice house in the middle of the jungle. Our taxi dropped us off, we put our backpacks on the deck and BOOM a sloth fell out of tree 30 feet away. He seemed a little shook up (I'm not a slothologist) but ok.
We were able to stand within an arms reach of him and shoot some pictures. There were some dares to touch him but none of us knew if sloths had a quicker vicious side to them.
